What is Implanon?

Implanon is a small contraceptive implant inserted under the skin of the upper arm. It releases a hormone called etonogestrel and provides long-acting reversible contraception for up to three years.

What is an IUD?

An IUD (intrauterine device) is a small device inserted into the uterus for long-acting reversible contraception. There are both hormonal and non-hormonal options available. This is done in clinic as a day procedure. We offer same day removal and insertions as well as same day insertions provided you have brought your IUD with you.

What is the difference between hormonal and non hormonal IUDs?

Hormonal IUDs
Hormonal IUDs such as Mirena and Kyleena release a small amount of progesterone locally within the uterus. They may also help reduce heavy bleeding and menstrual symptoms in some women.

Non-Hormonal IUDs
Copper IUDs do not contain hormones. They work by affecting sperm function and preventing fertilisation. Some women may experience heavier bleeding or cramping with copper IUDs.Suitability varies between individuals and is discussed during consultation.

Do you offer same day insertions?

Where clinically appropriate and appointment availability allows, same-day IUD and Implanon insertions or removals may be possible. Please let our reception team know when booking so appropriate appointment time can be allocated.
